We have only three days until a brand-new year. And let’s be honest… if you’re like most people in the world today, it can’t come fast enough. We’ve all had enough of 2020.
This year was hard for pretty much everybody I know… and in different ways, too. Everybody’s hard is different. Schools were closed. Parents had to ‘homeschool’. Businesses fought to stay in business. Some succeeded. A lot of them failed. And people lost their jobs. Lots of people.
And it was really easy to also lose hope.
Especially when we started this pandemic with a ‘stay at home’ order that was supposed to last 2 weeks. Then 2 more weeks. Then another month. Then… well, you know. And here we are, still.
While it might feel hopeless, I want to reassure you that it’s NOT!
Businesses are adapting. And they’re hiring! (In fact, here are 103 companies that are actively hiring…) But if you’re looking for a job, you’ll likely have a lot of competition, as the unemployment rate is at the highest it’s been in more than 50 years!
<queue the good news>
This article wasn’t meant to reinforce the hopelessness, though 😉 I want to help!
There are a lot of things you can be doing to position yourself to get hired…faster!
Pick yourself up.
Dust yourself off.
Update your LinkedIn profile.
And, ACTIVELY work on your JOB SEARCH. Like, intentionally.
Not passively. Or haphazardly. But actively and with purpose. And if you’re not sure how to do this, start HERE.
My friend, Jason Alba, created this awesome 6-week Job Search Program. He launched it in the Summer of 2019 and affectionately called it ‘Project HOPE’ … which is even more appropriate today, than it was on the day he named it that.
The premise of Project HOPE was…
…to address three big problems that every job seeker he had spoken to were facing:
- And, the Right Things.
This recorded program addresses those three things. It will help you feel less lonely. It will attack depression and inspire hope. And, it will help you understand what the right things are.
Jason combined ideas and principles that he’s learned over the last 14+ years talking with hundreds of career experts, and thousands of job seekers. From the bottom of Florida to the top of Washington state, from job ministries and MBA programs to living rooms and the phone, he is distilling what I would advise you to do in the job search.
He combines this with Mark LeBlanc’s success principles (that he teaches small businesses—who have remarkably similar/identical needs that job seekers have).
And the best part is, it’s really, really effective.
Project HOPE is a 6-week audio program.
Each morning you will listen to an audio recording, where Jason will outline your day. He sets up the structure and framework as well as train you in best practice job search tactics, starting with what you should do today, then building on that every day for six weeks. It starts out pretty simple, baby-stepping you into the program, but soon you are doing all the right things.
This program will not consume your day. In fact, for the first couple of weeks it will likely only take 30 to 60 minutes each day, which means you’ll have plenty of time to do your own stuff. It also means that if you are lucky enough to be working a full-time job, or if you are busy preparing for, and enjoying, the holidays, you will still be able to do this program.
As time goes on, as you learn more skills, the tasks get a little harder. But they also should produce more results to get you closer to the right job.
No program is effective without accountability.
Count on being accountable so you will make progress every single day. At the end of the day, you will be asked if you completed your three high-value activities as outlined at the beginning of the day. And each day starts with a clean slate.
To be clear, while the program provides guided coaching, it is not customized coaching. It is a recorded program where Jason coaches you on what to do and think today, tomorrow, and the next day, until you land a job. It’s like having him by your side cheering you on.
But most importantly, as I mentioned, it will not consume your day. You can make it as big or small as you want. It is designed to be something you can do every day without feeling like it is overwhelming.
How much will this cost?
Right now, the pricing is $497, however, due to the events of 2020, Jason has extended the introductory price of $197… which is a very small price to pay for daily structure, exceptional learning, and accountability that will help you succeed in your job search!
Also, when you complete the six-week program, you will have continued access to the program. You can start completely over, or start at week 2 or review the lesson recordings that suit your needs for as long as you want.
You’ll also have new tools in your job search toolbox. This program will empower you and it’s something you will actually look forward to every day.
Give yourself this gift of hope. And, hopefully a new job or promotion for the new year!!
